AlertSite Adds Three New Products to Help Companies Keep Their Web Sites Working at Peak Performance

As everyone knows, the Web plays a critical role in today's business environment. Not only is the Web now the main medium through which most companies conduct business with their customers, it is also one of the main ways organizations establish their identities and make their presence known to the world.

As such it has become increasingly critical for organizations to make sure that their Web sites are accessible by everyone - and furthermore that they are functioning at peak performance once visitors arrive. But as websites become increasingly complex, in terms of the functionality they deliver and the new technologies they employ, it has become difficult for organizations to continuously monitor and measure their performance.

That's where companies like AlertSite come in.

Based in Coconut Creek, Fla., AlertSite is a provider of Web performance measurement, systems monitoring and security vulnerability scanning products which help ensure that critical Web-based services are always running at peak performance. The company offers a suite of hosted Internet services that help companies of all types and sizes reduce costly downtime; identify and eliminate security vulnerabilities; deliver proof of performance to management and customers; quantify and track IT investment; analyze and solve problems faster; measure and report performance against SLAs; and optimize e-business performance. Among AlertSite's more than 2,000 customers are Ditech.com, Purina Mills, Vermont Teddy Bear, Honda, Ryder and Southern California Edison.

The company announced today that it has added three new products to its portfolio - Business and Technical Benchmarks and the Market Index - which provide different perspectives on Web performance benchmarks. These benchmarks, which are for use not only by companies but also by individual Web users, feature head-to-head company comparisons, as well as overall market analysis. Using these benchmarks, companies can quickly and easily compare how their sites stack up against competitors and various indices.

With AlertSite's Business Benchmarks, companies can monitor the performance of popular industry Web sites and arrive at industry averages. As such the benchmarks provide a "standard" on which companies can gauge Web site performance. By measuring performance characteristics including Web page response time and availability, Business Benchmarks can be used to create both tabular and graphic representations of Web site performance.

AlertSite's Business Benchmarks offer monitoring based on the company's proprietary TrueUser technology. Part and parcel of the company's DéjàClick Business Transaction Monitoring solution, TrueUser is the first "inside-the-browser" Web performance monitoring system which interacts dynamically with Rich Internet Applications (RIAs). One of the software's unique features is its "Adaptive Playback" capability, which enables it to automatically detect and adjust for dynamic features of RIAs, including cookies, caching, certificates, JavaScript, and delayed user responses. Through the "End-User Computing (EUC)" feature, scripts are created automatically as a byproduct of mouse clicks and web site browsing. And through the "Global Monitoring" feature, scripts can be used to monitor performance continuously and automatically from multiple locations around the world. In addition, end-to-end, web-based and server-based metrics are incorporated into a single AlertSite management console and proprietary algorithms are used to rate the likelihood of correct page object identification.

"The ability to create transaction scripts for rich Internet applications (RIAs), as well as monitoring from worldwide locations, allows AlertSite to generate complex benchmarks for dynamic web content built on Flash, AJAX, Java and other technologies," said James Chard, VP of business development, in a press release.

Meanwhile, AlertSite's Technical Benchmarks give organizations the ability to measure their site performance against other leading Web sites using metrics including DNS time, connect time, redirect time, content length and total response time.

In addition, AlertSite's Market Index delivers comparative data directly to C-level execs, analysts and managers who have a critical "need-to-know" about Internet performance. Delivered on a weekly basis, the Market Index offers comparisons to popular industry Web sites and calculates industry averages, thus providing a standard to gauge web site performance. Industries currently benchmarked by the Market Index include computers, financial services, information services, manufacturing, retail and telecommunications.
